School holidays start this week!
What have you got planned?
Here are my 7 top ideas for winter school holidays.
1. Escape the city and head to the coast
Winter is a wonderful time to be by the beach. Whether you want to go walking, fishing, boating, surfing or SUP. One advantage is the beach tends to be a lot quieter!
2. Do a museum crawl
Do you live in a city blessed with museums and galleries? Many have fantastic children’s programs and activities and some are even free. This winter at the National Gallery Victoria in Melbourne, there is an interactive kids exhibition coinciding with the MOMA exhibit from New York. More information here.
3. Have a campfire
Get rugged up, light a campfire, cook some damper and toast some marshmallows.
4. Go on a hike
Have you been to the Surf Coast lately? The Surf Coast Hike is a 44km multi-day hike, but one of my favourite sections is the cliff top walk in Aireys Inlet. It’s easy enough for young kids to do. More info on some of my favourite short hikes to do near Tall Trees Camping here.
5. Check out Live Wire park in Lorne
Live Wire Park is a new huge outdoor playground for kids. High ropes courses, wobbly bridges and zip lines and heaps more. Lorne is about two hours from Melbourne and fifteen minutes from Tall Trees Camping. There are circuits suitable for younger kids too aged from 7 years. More information can be found here.
6. Spend time at home de-cluttering
Sell and give away books, clothes and toys you no longer need. Not only do you have less clutter around the house but you might even make some extra cash to spend on your next getaway!
7. Go camping!
Don’t forget about our winter family special at Tall Trees Camping – 2 adults and up to 4 children can camp in two tents for $195 per night (normally $220). Sure it’s cold… but we provide extra doonas, hot water bottles and plenty of firewood to keep you toasty and warm.
