Are you a surfer, swimmer or into fishing? Or do you just like long walks on the beach?
Going to the beach is not just a summer activity. Winter is a great time to explore the beaches along the Great Ocean Road.
Here are the five best beaches near Tall Trees Camping in Moggs Creek on the Great Ocean Road.
Sunnymead beach can sometimes be totally empty and is a great choice for rock hopping, rock pools and a quiet swim. In low tide you can keep walking further along the coast here towards Anglesea.
Access: Sunnymead beach is in Aireys Inlet and can be accessed by a set of stairs from a car park at the end of the cliff top walk. It is also on the route of the surf coast walk.
Eastern view beach
Not far from Tall Trees Camping towards Lorne, Eastern view beach is known as a surfing mecca.
Access: There is a car park for Eastern View beach just beyond the famous Great Ocean Road arch. You can also walk here from Moggs Creek beach – approx 20 minutes.
Is the only locally patrolled beach and is the best option for swimming during summer. If you want an amazing view of the Split Point Lighthouse and the famous ‘pole house’ – this is the beach to head to.
Access: There is a small car park opposite the surf life-saving club, and parking along the Great Ocean Road. Fairhaven Beach is accessible through many walkways off the Great Ocean Road too. Click here for details on the opening hours of the Surf Life Saving Club bar and bistro.
Moggs Creek beach
Moggs Creek beach is our local beach and only a 10-minute walk from Tall Trees Camping. As well as walking and horse riding, fishing is popular at Moggs Creek beach.
Access: Moggs Creek beach is an easy 10-minute walk from Tall Trees Camping. There is a handful of car parks available at the beach.
Point Roadknight beach
Point Roadknight is one of the best family beaches in our region. There is a surf life-saving patrol during peak times. The Surf Coast Walk also comes through this beach. There is a beach access ramp for boating and a fish cleaning station.
Access: Point Roadknight beach is in Anglesea – and a 15-minute drive from Tall Trees Camping. There is car parking at the beach.
